Covergirl Star Wars Collaboration Review

"There has been an awakening" and it is my inner geek girl. Covergirl recently (and by recently i mean a couple months ago) released a collaboration with the blockbuster film Star Wars: The Force Awakens. The collection contains 6 lipsticks, 6 nail polishes and two mascara formulas (Super Sizer in regular and waterproof) with 10 different quotes.

It took me a while but the force was with me last week and helped me spot it at my local drugstore. Everything was mostly picked over but I did find one lipstick I liked and a mascara in the regular formula or, as advertised, the dark side edition. Click here to view on Targets website.

The lipstick is in the shade 30. It's a metallic red with glitter chunks. The formula actually comes from the Colorlicious line by Covergirl but the shade itself is limited edition. You can find it at your local drugstore for about $6. Each tube contains .12 oz.

Application was pretty easy. The formula is really slippery but creamy. I didn't notice any patchiness and it applied in full color with one layer. I noticed a slight sweet scent while applying it but that went away after application.

The texture feels smooth but has glittery junks in it that are obvious on the lips. I can easily feel the glitter when I rub my lips together but I don't notice it too much otherwise. The wear-time of the lipstick is relatively short. It transferred easily and bleed outside of my line within an hour. I strongly recommend a lip liner with this lipstick.

The mascara is actually just the SuperSizer that was released earlier this year but with limited edition packaging. The options you have to choose from are 10 famous quotes from Star Wars and the choice between waterproof (light side) or regular (dark side). You can find it at your local drugstore for around $6 and it contains . 40 oz.

The synthetic rubber wand for the mascara is definitely different. Its not my favorite for building volume but it works with extra effort. I do like the formula though. It is more wet than dry but its not overwhelmingly wet. Its great for adding length and adds somewhat of a curl.

I wouldn't normally go for this mascara just because I do like others better but I bought it anyway for the packaging. However, a lot of people claim to love this mascara and it does have a lot of positive reviews on Ultas website (buy it at a different store though, it's cheaper).  It does last all day on me without smudging or flaking. Its dark and separates my lashes beautifully. Maybe would make a great lower lash mascara? I do notice a faint smell with this mascara but it fades after application.

I didn't purchase the nail polish because I personally don't like the formula from Covergirl. But if you're interested, it's available at your local drugstore for $4-5. The packaging looks like the permanent Outlast nail polish but with a Star Wars sticker on the handle. Nothing special if you ask me.

I honestly wish a high end brand would have done the collaboration. Don't get me wrong, I love the drugstore prices but I wish there was more to the line. I would love to see some metallic liners, blush or even highlighters. I feel like there could have been more to the packaging as well. Covergirl just slapped Star Wars on it and called it a day. I mean I guess I'm still OK with that because I love the idea. I just really wish the line would have been more unique like MAC limited edition collections.

But the lipstick does makeup my inner geek happy when I see it on my vanity. I don't regret buying it or the mascara.

Chit Chat Wednesday | If You Could Only Use 6 Makeup Products For A Month What Would You Use?

If you could only use 6 makeup products for a month what would you use?

It's hard to choose but here are my answers:

Foundation because I need to cover my acne.
Concealer because I need to hide my designer under eyes bags.
Powder because if I don't set everything it will move.
Blush because I need to look alive and I can use it as eyeshadow.
Mascara because my eyes need a lift. Mascara could possibly be used as eyeliner , too!
Tinted lip balm because I need hydration and color.

I would hate to live without eyeshadow for a month but I feel like I could do without it. Loading up on mascara is all I need! I will miss bronzer, though. I gotta say I would look like I'm dead without warmth from a bronzer. Heck my nose would even look out of porportion without my usual contouring.  And I would probably cry if I had to skip my fall lipstick colors! Atleast this isn't for real, right

What would your six product be?
Are they the same as mine?

Lorac Ultimate Unzipped Holiday Collection

Hey! So the other day I was on Instagram and I noticed Lorac is leasing an Unzipped collection for $80. The collection includes their Unzipped palettes, and the Unzipped blush & lipstick duo at Ulta only.

I have always been a fan of their Unzipped collection and I'm sure most of you have heard of their palettes. I figured some people were wondering if they are any good and that's why I'm here talking about them today.

I didn't go out and purchase the set but I do own every product in the set. I scored the gold palette and blush palette back in the spring when they initially released. I can't remember exactly, but I'm pretty sure I paid $42 for the Unzipped Gold and $25 for the blush and lipstick duo. So for all three products together my total cost was $109 plus tax. With the holiday set you save $29, plus less tax is paid. That's an amazing deal!

But how is the quality?

Unzipped Original

Unzipped Gold

The shadows in the Unzipped palettes are a different formula than the Pro palettes. They're not as soft and buttery but they are still nice. I do notice some stiffness with each matte shadow but they still perform like a good shadow. For the shimmer shadows, some can be dusty but that can be fixed if they are dampened. They are all indeed pigmented though. One shadow from the Unzipped Gold is the most pigmented shadow I have ever came across (swatches below). They do last all day with primer and yes, I do love the primer that comes with the set. It works well with any eyeshadow or liner I use.

The quality of the blush and lipstick duo is superb. The blushes are really smooth and absent of chalkiness. They really do feel like high end blushes. They blend in easily and don't look patchy once applied. The shimmery shades do not emphasize pores once blended in.  The shades are are pretty but I don't find the matte shades to be unique in color. There may already be duplicates in your collection but I do feel like the formula with these might be better. The darker shimmery (unapologetic) shade is the most unique shade, in my opinion, in the palette. It's nice for a warm, just got back from the beach, look. The lighter shimmer blush (unimaginable) has a lot of pigment but may appear as a highlight or blush topper for deeper skin tones. I also noticed more of a chunky texture with this blush but it's not noticeable unless you swatch it with your finger, you may never notice if you don't swatch your makeup.

Underrated, Unashamed, Unapologetic, Unimaginable and Girl Next Door (lipstick)

The lipstick that comes with the blush palette isn't my favorite. The color crosses that line where it's so light it looks chalky and it's just not flattering. I like the formula of the other Alter Ego lipsticks I own but I could live without this one. It is a good deal , though. The lipstick alone costs $16 so you're basically buying the palette for $9!

It all boils down to if you're after good deals on permanent items or lusting after a limited edition holiday palette... I think this set is a great deal if you're interested in the individual items but you can get them any time you want to. The only problem is you'll have to fork over more money. I think if you're a makeup collector, go for a different holiday set. However, if you're just looking for a good value, go for this set. It just depends on the buyer but I can say everything in this collection is worth every hard earned penny!
